**Media are invited to the opening reception on Wednesday, December 11 from 5-7pm.**

A special exhibition of photographs taken by 13 children from the Imbabazi Orphanage in Rwanda will be presented by the Department of Photography and Imaging at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. The exhibition is part of a special project to raise awareness and to help ensure they receive an education.

Entitled Through the Eyes of Children: The Rwanda Project, the show comprises 24 archival, digital color prints that document the daily lives of the children at and around the Imbabazi Orphanage. It will go on view December 6 in the Gulf+Western Gallery (main floor) at 721 Broadway, and remain on view through January 11, 2003. Gallery hours are 10 am to 7 pm weekdays, and 12 pm to 5 pm Saturdays. Admission is free. For further information, call 212.998.1930.

The photographs were taken by children aged 8 - 18, who are survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Using disposable cameras, the children first began photographing in 2000 at a workshop conducted by the photographer and Tisch School alumnus David Jiranek, and inspired by the founder of the orphanage, Rosamond Carr, an American living in Rwanda for over 50 years. These award-winning photographs are outstanding for their visual acuity and extraordinary composition. For more information on The Rwanda Project see: www.rwandaproject.org
