New York University School of Law will honor Francis J. Morison with its highest award, The Arthur T. Vanderbilt Medal.

The 1997 Vanderbilt Medal to Mr. Morison will be presented at The Vanderbilt Associates Brunch on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11 A.M. at NYU School of Law, The Great Hall of D’Agostino Hall, 108 West Third Street. Press coverage is invited.

"We are pleased to present Frank Morison with the 1997 Arthur T. Vanderbilt Medal in recognition of his ever-present contributions to the community," said John Sexton, dean of the NYU School of Law. "Frank’s generosity of spirit and exemplary accomplishments inspire and honor us all."

Mr. Morison graduated in 1967 from NYU School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Law Review. Since that time, his involvement in the legal, artistic, and educational communities has distinguished him among the graduates of NYU Law.

Upon graduation from NYU Law, Mr. Morison joined Davis Polk & Wardwell, where he has remained ever since. He became a partner of the firm in 1975, and served as the firm's London partner from 1979 to 1984, a period in which United States corporations were actively tapping international capital markets and non-U.S. entities were increasingly entering our markets. He was elected to Davis Polk's three-member Management Committee in 1987 and in 1996 was elected Managing Partner.

Mr. Morison also has devoted substantial efforts to several New York City organizations. He has served on the Securities Regulation Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is considered an influential practitioner in the area of international securities law. He chairs the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Manhattan Theatre Club, one of the country's premier not-for-profit theater companies. He also chairs the Board of Trustees of Manhattan's Xavier High School, of which he and each of his three sons are alumni. Additionally, he is one of NYU Law's most active alumni: he is a Law School Trustee, a Weinfeld Associate, and is actively involved in the Campaign for NYU Law.

Former recipients of The Vanderbilt Medal include alumni Jacob Javits, George T. Lowy, Martin Lipton, Herbert M. Wachtell, Melvyn I. Weiss, Chief Judge of New York State's Court of Appeals Judith Smith Kaye, and former New York City Deputy Mayor Fritz W. Alexander II.
