New York City –The Honorable Jeffrey L. Amestoy, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Vermont, will deliver The Attorney General Robert Abrams Public Service Lecture on Monday, November 9, 1998 at 6:15 PM at New York University School of Law, in Greenberg Lounge, at Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South. A reception will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to public. Press coverage is welcome.

The Justice will lecture on "The Judicial Life: A First Impression."

Chief Justice Jeffrey L. Amestoy began his career in public service as legal counsel for the Governor’s Commission on the Administration for Justice, State of Vermont in 1974. In 1984, he was elected Attorney General of Vermont and re-elected six times. As Attorney General his accomplishments included reforms on Vermont criminal laws dealing with bail, domestic violence, child abuse, and hate crimes. The Vermont Attorney General’s Office was nationally recognized for its environmental protection litigation under Attorney General Amestoy’s leadership.

The Attorney General Robert Abrams Public Service Lecture Series provides that each year a prominent public figure who has performed exemplary public service will address the students, faculty, alumni and friends of NYU School of Law. The Lecture Series will focus on the significance of having all or a portion of one’s career dedicated to public service and the positive impact public service has on society’s changing legal, governmental and social policy.
