Fundraising Expert Naomi Levine Leads Pro Bono Program to Help Community Organizations Learn How to Stay Afloat in Difficult Times

Fundraising is the lifeblood of any nonprofit. In this time of economic uncertainty, lower charitable giving and probable government cutbacks, however, smaller neighborhood nonprofits are struggling. In an effort to help smaller community-based organizations, in its own backyard, to develop smarter strategies to support their missions, the Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising at New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies [SCPS] is running a free “Fundraising for Community Nonprofits” workshop for Greenwich Village-area nonprofits.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 13, 2002 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

WHERE: NYU’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, 1st Floor, Auditorium

53 Washington Square South

The half-day program will be led by the Center’s executive director, Naomi Levine, who until recently, was NYU’s lead fundraiser and is credited with raising over $2.5 billion during 22 years service at the University. Mrs. Levine will lecture about “How to Be a Successful Fundraiser.”

Susan Kasten, a member of the Center’s faculty, will lead a session on “Fundraising for Community Nonprofits,” to address the specific concerns of these types of organizations.

Finally, Art Feinglass, also an adjunct professor in the Center’s program, will lecture on “Public Relations for Community Nonprofits,” to help the organizations develop ways to raise awareness about their work and thus aid fundraising efforts.

The program is also supported by NYU’s Office of Community Relations and will be introduced by Dr. Lynne Brown, NYU vice president for university relations and public affairs.

Admission to this event is by invitation only. Press is welcome and can arrange coverage by calling Cathryn Keller at 212 998-9119 or Ken Brown at 212 998-6808.
