New York City (August 21, 1997) --The establishment of The Attorney General Robert Abrams Public Service Lecture Series at New York University School of Law was announced today by John Sexton, dean of the Law School.

The Series is presented by NYU School of Law and its prestigious Root-Tilden-Snow Scholarship Program, which for the last 46 years has been awarding scholarships on the basis of academic excellence and a commitment to public service.

The first lecture will be delivered by U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut on Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at 6:15 PM in Tishman Auditorium, Vanderbilt Hall, NYU School of Law, 40 Washington Square South. A reception will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to public. Press coverage is welcome.

"We are very pleased to honor Robert Abrams, one of NYU Law School’s most accomplished graduates, with the naming of a lecture series in public service," said Dean Sexton. "His courageous efforts have improved the lives of individual citizens and strengthened and advanced our legal and social institutions."

Mr. Abrams began his public service career at 27 when he was elected to three terms in the New York State Assembly. He has since served as Bronx Borough President and Attorney General of New York State for four terms.

The Attorney General Robert Abrams Public Service Lecture Series provides that each year a prominent public figure who has performed exemplary public service will address the students, faculty, alumni and friends of NYU School of Law. The Series will focus on the significance of having all or a portion of one’s career dedicated to public service.
