An exhibition featuring two photographers – Silvia Fubini and Francesca Magnani – will open at New York University’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (located at 24 W. 12th Street) on Tuesday, April 2, 6 p.m. On display will be two separate shows: “Eyes on the City” by Fubini; and “Duplicittà” by Magnani. The exhibition, which will be on display through April 26, is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information the public may call (212) 998-8739.

“Eyes on the City” discloses a dreamed series of buildings, where each one contains a human soul: a balcony has pupils, a tower reveals delicate breasts, two church bells resonate in a woman’s forehead. The series of black-and-white photographs by Fubini expresses a union between architecture and human flesh, and people and environment. Silvia Fubini, from Torino, Italy, specializes in portraits. Currently she lives in New York City.

In “Duplicittà” images of Italy are juxtaposed with shots of New York City as a way to recreate the double perception that accompanies people who live far from their homeland. New York and Padua are the primary poles of opposition, but then this idea of doubleness broadens: New York and Italy, New York and Europe, and in the last pair of photographs, New York before and after. Francesca Magnani has been commuting between New York and Italy for the past five years. She is a Ph.D. candidate at NYU.
