Alfred Bloom, President of Swarthmore, to Lead NYU Abu Dhabi
On September 29, 2008, NYU announced the appointment of Alfred H. Bloom, the highly respected president of Swarthmore College, as Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi. While completing his term as Swarthmore’s president, he will serve as a consultant; he will assume full-time leadership of NYU Abu Dhabi in August 2009. In the 2009 spring semester, NYU College of Nursing will grant $10,000 scholarships to 15 accelerated program baccalaureate students. NYU School of Law and Migration Policy Institute Announce New Database Demonstrating That Immigration Bills Expanding Immigrants’ Rights Have Higher Passage Rate
New York University School of Law and the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a non-partisan think tank dedicated to the study of global migration, today launched a comprehensive online searchable database of all immigration bills introduced in 2007. The database was compiled by NYU School of Law students under the supervision of Assistant Professor of Law Cristina Rodríguez, who is also a non-resident MPI fellow, and Muzaffar Chisti, director of MPI’s office at NYU School of Law. NYU’s Courant Institute Receives $500,000 NSF Grant to Discover the Learning Algorithm of the Brain
New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and its institutional partners-Stanford University, MIT, and the University of California, Berkeley-have each received a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study the “learning algorithm of the brain.” The four-year, $2 million project seeks to develop new computational models of how the visual system learns to recognize objects.
