“Food+Art+Form=Art” at NYU’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, Nov. 8-23

After successful showings in Padua and Milan, the exhibition “Food+Art+Form=Art” will be on display at New York University’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (24 W. 12th Street) from November 8 through November 23. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For further information, call 212.998.8730.
Focusing on the aesthetic fusion between food and art, Arte Mangaiare, a non-profit Italian cultural association, presents “Food+Design+Form=Art,” an exhibition exploring two aspects of food design: the artisinal and the industrial. The artisinal designs are unique works of art, such as plates and platters that are specifically designed as art objects. Industrial designs are prototypes of utilitarian objects such as forks, knives, and toothpicks that can be (and likely will be) mass-produced.
This exhibit will showcase objects in two ways: by themselves, and in a context showing their utility. An image or a three-dimensional model of food will be used to illustrate the intended purposes of the pieces.
For the past several years in Milan, Arte da Mangiare has produced multi-media expositions involving restaurants, galleries, and historical sites. One of the important goals of the association is to provide audiences with an alternative view to the conventions of food and art display.
