Event to Commemorate 60th Anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings

New York University’s Steinhardt School and its Department of Art and Art Professions present a two-part symposium honoring the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima featuring international artists, educators, and activists discussing art in the nuclear age, Friday, April 15; Einstein Auditorium, 34 Stuyvesant Street. The event is free and open to the public.

Hiroshi Sunairi, professor and artist in Art and Art Professions, orchestrated this event to teach students about the concept of peace and its interpretation through art. Sunairi is a native of Hiroshima and descendent of the Hibakusha (of bomb affected people). Sunairi’s work includes the “Peace by Piece” exhibition, a collaborative project with students who attended his art class on Hiroshima and Nagasaki through the arts.

Guest speakers will represent the following organizations: Fashion Peace; Educators for Social Responsibility-NY Metro Area; Lawyers’ Committee on Nuclear Policy; EPOP International.

6:00 - 8:00 p.m. “The Nuclear Age and the Arts”
Guest speakers include the following artists: Dominic McGill, Ombretta Agrò, Joy Garnett, Hiroshi Sunairi, Nobuho Nagasawa.
