New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute will host “Taking Talese Seriously,” a conversation that will include Gay Talese, the former New York Times reporter and best-selling author, on Wednesday, September 16, 6-8 p.m. at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute (20 Cooper Square, between 5th and 6th Streets, 7th Floor). Subways: 6 (Astor Place); R, W (8th Street).

The event, which will ask if lengthy, deeply reported, portraits are relevant for young journalists today, will also include: Pete Hamill, who served as editor-in-chief of both the New York Post and the New York Daily News and is now a distinguished writer-in-residence at the Institute; NYU Journalism Professor Katie Roiphe, author of The Morning After: Sex, Fear, and Feminism and Uncommon Arrangements, among other works; and Robert Boynton, director of the Institute’s Literary Reportage concentration and author of the New New Journalism.

The event is sponsored by the Institute’s Literary Reportage concentration and co-sponsored by the Paris Review. Talese was a reporter for the New York Times from 1956 to 1965 and has since written for the Times, Esquire, The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, and other national publications.
