Benefit Celebration & Alumni Reunion to Honor Its Chair, Red Burns

New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) will mark its 30th anniversary in October with a weekend of festivities, including a benefit event honoring its chair, Red Burns. ITP is a pioneering graduate center for the design and study of new media forms in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts.

The 30th anniversary celebration will take place October 1-3, 2009, at various venues around New York City, including a benefit gala at IAC’s Frank Gehry-designed building. Proceeds from the gala will go toward the establishment of the Red Burns Scholarship Fund. Other events include: an alumni and student social mixer, a special ITP project day, and a Pecha-Kucha-style presentation. Founded in 1979 as one of the first graduate programs focusing entirely on alternative media, ITP is a two-year program that explores the imaginative use of communications technologies and how they might augment, improve, and bring delight and art into people’s lives. ITP has grown into a living community of technologists, theorists, engineers, designers and artists uniquely dedicated to pushing the boundaries of interactivity in the real and digital worlds. A hands-on approach to experimentation, production, and risk-taking make ITP a creative home not only to its 220 students, but also to an extended network of the industry’s most influential practitioners.
