NYU’s Center on Law and Security Resident Fellow Barton Gellman, national correspondent for The Washington Post, and Dana Priest, Center Alumni Fellow, Board Advisor, and intelligence and national security reporter for The Washington Post, have been awarded 2008 Pulitzer Prizes.

Gellman received the Pulitzer for National Reporting, along with Jo Becker, for their “Angler” series of articles about the vice presidency of Dick Cheney. The series also recently won the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting.

Priest was awarded the Pulitzer for Public Service, along with Anne Hull, for their expose on the neglect of wounded soldiers and veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Both Gellman and Priest have previously won Pulitzers, among many other journalistic awards; in 2006, Priest was awarded the Pulitzer for beat reporting for her work on black site prisons and other aspects of the government’s counterterrorism strategies. In 2002, Gellman shared the national reporting Pulitzer Prize with the Post’s staff for its comprehensive coverage of developments in covering the war on terror.

This marks the third consecutive year that Center Fellows have been awarded Pulitzer Prizes. Last year, Center Fellow Lawrence Wright won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Non-Fiction for his best-selling book, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.
