The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at the New York University College of Nursing has launched a new Web site, ConsultGeriRN.org, an evidence-based authority on the care of older adults.
The site was developed as a resource for nurses in clinical and educational settings, to provide up-to-the-minute information on best practices in caring for older adults and treating a wide range of symptoms and syndromes that particularly affect them. The site is part of the work of the Hartford Institute to enhance geriatric competence in hospitals and specialty nursing practice.
Mathy Mezey, EdD, RN, FAAN, professor and director of the Hartford Institute said, “The Hartford Institute is committed to continuing to provide resources through ConsultGeriRN.org, a Web site that substantially enhances nurses’ access to new and expanded Web-based geriatric education offerings created by the Hartford Institute and by the nursing specialty associations.”
ConsultGeriRN.org, whose content was formerly found on GeroNurseOnline.org, was developed by the Hartford Institute as the go-to Web site for nurses and other health care professionals for information on caring for older patients. It is unique in that it provides nurses and other health care professionals with immediate access to the most current and comprehensive geriatric-care information anywhere.
ConsultGeriRN addresses the need that many hospitals face to improve patient outcomes through better staff training and access to evidence-based knowledge. The knowledge and skills presented through ConsultGeriRN.org will serve to promote nurses’ ability to care for complex patient needs.
ConsultGeriRN.org offers links to the Hartford Institute’s Try This series of assessment tools, which includes nationally recommended instruments for use with older adults; a set of hospital competencies for care of older adults; continuing education resources; and many more materials related to the care of older adults.
The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University’s College of Nursing seeks to shape the quality of health care older Americans receive by promoting the highest level of geriatric competence in all nurses. It identifies and develops best practices in nursing care of older adults and infuses these practices into the education of every nursing student and the work- environment of every practicing professional nurse.
