Provocative Cultural Observer Bruce Benderson Reads From New Book, Sex & Isolation, at NYU, Nov. 15

Bruce Benderson, a journalist, novelist, essayist, and cultural observer who has gained international acclaim for his provocative and original take on contemporary society, will read from his new book, Sex & Isolation and other essays (University of Wisconsin Press), on Thursday, November 15, at 6 p.m., at New York University’s Fales Library, 3rd floor of NYU’s Bobst Library, 70 Washington Square South. Winner of France’s 2004 Prix de Flore for his memoir The Romanian: Story of an Obsession, Benderson is the author of nine books, including User, James Bidgood, and Pretending to Say No. He has contributed articles to the New York Times Magazine, Village Voice, nest, Paris Vogue, and Libération, among other media.
In Sex & Isolation, Benderson explores the intersection of culture and subculture and coolly dissects the world around him: hustlers and the hustled, criminals and divas, Latin American literary geniuses and the Blue Angel of Montmartre. Included in the book is his famous essay, “Toward the New Degeneracy.”
