Neuroscience Lecture to Be Followed By Performance By LeDoux’s Band, The Amygdaloids

New York University Professor Joseph LeDoux, director of NYU’s Conte Center for the Neuroscience of Fear and Anxiety, will deliver a public lecture, “Why Do We Feel So Afraid,” on Wed., Oct. 10, 6:15 p.m. at New York University (Tishman Auditorium in Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South, between MacDougal and Sullivan Sts.). LeDoux is the author of The Emotional Brain and Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are.

The event will also include a performance by LeDoux’s band, the Amygdaloids. The band plays a blend of original tunes (“Mind-Body Problem,” “All in a Nut,” “If You Want Your Mind to Last”) dubbed by John Nash, the mathematician who was the subject of the book and movie “A Beautiful Mind,” as “psychoanalytic.” One of the band’s objectives is to increase awareness of mental health issues through promotion of research via music.
