N-331, 2006-07
The NYU Master’s Program in Global Public Health will present a panel discussion Tuesday, March 13 on the topic “First Episode Schizophrenia 15 Years Later: Findings from the WHO-Collaborative International Study of Schizophrenia.” The event, which is part of the Conversations on Global Public Health Series, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at 246 Greene Street, 1st floor, Kimball Hall Lounge.
The panel will summarize the results of the International Study of Schizophrenia, the outcome of a series of cross-cultural psychiatric epidemiological studies begun in the late 1960’s by the World Health Organization. Timed to coincide with the release of the full volume of findings (Recovery from Schizophrenia: An International Perspective; Oxford, 2007), this presentation will provide a synopsis of the overall findings, highlight some unexpected or anomalous results, and confront the still-vexing question of the role of culture in the long-term course of psychotic diseases.
