The findings of investigations into the unusually high prevalence of asthma among South Bronx children will be discussed by New York University researchers at a press conference on Monday, October 16. The event, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jose E. Serrano, begins at 4 p.m., and also includes members of four Bronx community organizations.

The multi-year asthma study centered on the health effects of transportation-related pollution is being conducted by investigators from NYU’s School of Medicine and Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. It includes some of the most definitive findings ever produced concerning the direct consequences for youth who live or attend schools near truck routes.

“Essentially, this study is a call to further action,” said Congressman Serrano, whose legislative district includes The Bronx.
