Jules A. Martin joined NYU in 1997 and now serves as Vice President for Public Safety, managing one of the largest university security forces in the nation, consisting of 350 security employees who provide protection services for over 50,000 students and close to 15,000 employees.

Prior to joining NYU, Martin was a 28-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He began his career as a patrolman in 1969 and rose through the ranks of the NYPD, serving in a number of posts including patrol officer, attorney in the NYPD Legal Department, chief of security for then-Mayor David Dinkins, patrol borough commander for Southern Queens, and chief of the Housing Bureau.

Martin serves as a commissioner on the Civilian Complaint Review Board, is a member of the Character and Fitness Committee of the First Judicial Department of the New York State Appellate Division, and participates annually as Principal For a Day for the NYC Department of Education.

Martin received a B.A. in criminal justice from John Jay College, a M.A. in public administration from C.W. Post, Long Island University, and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. He has been a member of the New York State Bar since 1985 and was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar in 1998.
