The heart of Arts & Science is our faculty, which closely links undergraduate and graduate education with training and research. Faculty members are responsible for designing curricula and teaching in both the College of Arts and Science (CAS) and the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS). In this way, students at all levels have the opportunity to interact with leaders in their respective fields and to participate in their research.

The NYU College of Dentistry has built a remarkable cadre of faculty devoted to providing students with the full range of clinical and basic science training in order to prepare them for key roles in our nation's healthcare system. NYUCD faculty are also making dramatic progress as researchers in a number of areas, including engineering artificial muscle, minimizing the devastating effects of oral cancer, revealing novel targets in programmed cell death, designing and testing dental implants, and reducing oral health disparities.

The College of Nursing, a nationally ranked nursing program, is a leading international center for the education of professional nurses and for significant initiatives in theory development, research and clinical practice. The College of Nursing offers a stimulating and welcoming faculty environment with the rich resources of the university as a backdrop. Faculty play a significant role in shaping the professional development of the next generation of nursing leaders, the NYU Nursing baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral students.

The Courant Institute, comprised of New York University's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, plays a central role in the development of applied mathematics, analysis, and computer science. The faculty of the Courant Institute have received numerous national and international awards in recognition of their extraordinary research accomplishments.

New York University Libraries advance learning, research, and scholarly inquiry in an atmosphere dedicated to the open exchange of information by building, preserving, interpreting, and providing access to rich and diverse collections; teaching the effective use and critical evaluation of information resources; developing creative and responsive services for individual user communities; capitalizing on innovative information technologies to foster intellectual growth. While our primary responsibility lies with the students and faculty of New York University, the Libraries welcome and engage in scholarly, cultural, and artistic interactions with the broader communities.

The faculty at the Gallatin School display an extraordinary range of teaching and research interests. They are teachers and scholars in area studies, in the fields of social and political thought, the humanities and the arts. As the Gallatin School's mission is interdisciplinary in nature, all faculty work together to contribute to the development of innovative programs.

The Institute of Fine Arts is dedicated to graduate teaching and advanced research in the history of art, archaeology, and the conservation and technology of works of art. The Institute offers the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy, the Advanced Certificate in Conservation of Works of Art for those M.A. students choosing to specialize in Conservation, and the Certificate in Curatorial Studies issued jointly with the Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of the Ph.D. program.

School of Continuing and Professional Studies&

Today's market demands a high level of expertise from its workforce. At SCPS, industry leaders, CEO's, Fulbright Scholars; Nobel, Pulitzer, Oscar and Emmy winners, experts and mentors share their knowledge with the SCPS student body. SCPS faculty continue to make major contributions to their field and come to class ready to share real-world experiences and insider knowledge with students.

A law school builds its reputation on the excellence of its faculty, and New York University School of Law's faculty has received wide recognition for the quality of both its scholarship and its pedagogy. NYU Law's full-time faculty is made up of more than 100 professors, deans, and librarians who have come to the Law School from all types of private practice, the bench, policy-making and advisory positions in government, business and industry, the nonprofit sector, and the faculty of other law schools.

School of Medicine&

The mission of the medical school is threefold: the training of physicians, the search for new knowledge, and the care of the sick. The three are inseparable. Medicine can be handed on to succeeding generations only by long training in the scientific methods of investigation and by the actual care of patients. Hence, the appropriate teaching of medicine and the training of physicians must be accomplished in a setting of excellence at the highest level of human achievement. With this understanding, the NYU School of Medicine strives to provide a rich environment for scholarship, research, and patient care where the faculty understands that the students, as our successors, should not merely replace, but surpass.

Experienced clinicians, researchers, experts in human behavior, policy developers, and administrators from many settings come to teach at the Silver School of Social Work. The interdisciplinary faculty brings the School a wide range of knowledge and social work orientations spanning contemporary psychodynamic, psychological, and social theory perspectives and related research. They are experienced practicing professionals in mental health, policy administration, research, child welfare, group work, and independent practice.

More than 225 full-time faculty in 11 separate academic departments form the academic core of our School -- teaching, undertaking research, leading curricular reform, developing and implementing innovative field-based projects, and providing leadership in professional organizations throughout the country. Their work is supported by a carefully selected corps of highly trained scholars and professionals who serve as adjunct faculty.

The Tisch School of the Arts offers the B.A., B.F.A., M.F.A., M.P.S., M.A. (moving image archiving and preservation), and, through the Graduate School of Arts and Science, the M.A. (performance studies or cinema studies) and Ph.D degrees. Departments and programs offering professional training are acting, dance, design, drama, performance studies, film and television, cinema studies, photography and imaging, dramatic writing, musical theatre writing, recorded music, and interactive telecommunications.
