Fengbo Hang joins the Courant Institute as an Associate Professor of Mathematics. He earned his B.Sc. in Mathematics from Tsinghua University (1993), his M.Sc. in Mathematics from Beijing University (1996) and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Courant Institute, New York University (2001). Previously, he taught at Princeton University.
Dr. Hang's research focuses on nonlinear analysis and its applications to differential geometry and mathematical physics. He has worked on topology of Sobolev maps related to variational problems between manifolds, problems from conformal geometry and sharp inequalities in analysis and geometry. Recently he has been working on some geometric inequalities and their relations to fully nonlinear elliptic equations, some rigidity problems in comparison geometry and the quantitative study of topological singularities and its relations to singularities appearing in variational problems. Dr. Hang was a recipient of the Sokol Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and the Sloan Research Fellowship.
