With research interests that include labor economics and empirical microeconomics, Ahu Gemici joins the Department of Economics as an Assistant Professor. She received her B.A. in Economics from New York University (2001) and her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (2007).
Her dissertation, "Family Migration and Labor Market Outcomes," explores the job search and migration behavior of married couples, as well as the implications of family migration on the employment and wage outcomes of married men and women. Specifically, she found that job search and migration behavior of married couples differs from that of singles, suggesting that marriage, migration and labor market decisions are interrelated. She is also interested in investigating the implications of joint location constraints on family formation, family dissolution, and child welfare. Dr. Gemici was the recipient of the Maloof Family Dissertation Fellowship in Economics (2006) and the Paul Taubman Memorial Prize for Empirical Economics Research (2007).
