GA/TA Issues
The agreement between the University and the United Auto Workers - who had represented our graduate students who serve as graduate and teaching assistants in certain schools and departments - expired on August 31, 2005.
In light of the expiration of the Agreement and changes in the labor law, the University had to decide whether to renegotiate a new agreement with the UAW or withdraw recognition of the Union while maintaining competitive compensation, benefits, access to fair processes to settle conflicts, and an environment of respect and support for graduate assistants and their educational programs. The following will provide you with background on NYU's decision-making process.
