Jess Benhabib is the Senior Vice Provost for Planning. In this position, Dr. Benhabib is responsible for reviewing the academic plans of the schools with the deans and the Provost. He also oversees the process for promotion and tenure and lateral hires of faculty.
Dr. Benhabib has been at NYU since 1980. He is currently the Paulette Goddard Professor of Political Economy in the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS), where he works in the areas of economic growth and business cycles. He has served as Dean of Social Sciences and Interim Dean of FAS. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and has served on a number of the editorial boards of scholarly journals in economics. He was the co-editor of the Journal of Economic Theory with Karl Shell from 2000 to 2005.
Dr. Benhabib obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1976.
