Faculty Distinctions

Joanna Merlin, adjunct teacher in the Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts, was honored earlier this month in Moscow by Russians Abroad, an organization founded by the writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn to honor Russian émigrés who have made significant contributions to American scientific and cultural life. She received a medal for her work in continuing the legacy of the late Russian actor, director, and author Michael Chekhov (1891-1955).

Office of the Provost

The Provost is the University's chief academic officer, who is responsible for setting the University's academic strategy and priorities, working closely with the deans of the schools, and identifying and cultivating interdisciplinary areas of excellence and collaboration within and between schools.

The Provost's Office oversees academic appointments, promotions, tenure, and faculty affairs; develops and maintains the academic infrastructure of the library and information technologies at NYU; guides academic planning and research support; and coordinates student programs and campus life.
