12 ANIMAL/HUMAN INTERFACES

These 12 animal human interfaces discussed above are not a comprehensive list of social-natural relations, but is enough to establish the many facets in which animals are directly involved in human society. This redresses the idea that working with animals is marginal to sociopolitical concerns, and the privileging given to simulations over the observational practices in the contemporary information economy.

The increasing recognition and direct involvement of animals in politics has prompted several countries including Germany and the US to register animal parties. These political parties are comprised of people who have determined that the representation of animals in political systems needs to be made explicit. OOZ seeks to make the spectacle of animals, the playful interactions and the interpretive work of making sense of cross species social behavior not only explicit, but a participatory realm that draws on the interpretive capacities of non experts. Less concerned with formal politics than those founding animal political parties this project works with the everyday scripts of interaction, the distributed intelligence of people and organisms, and the lived material context in which these take place.

The authority of 'naturalization' works through each of the institutions/interfaces discussed above in various ways that certainly deserves further explanation and exploration. The material generated by OOZ will provide the means to do this, and the attention to a fundamental process that is not human centric.
