Song of the Day #686

Song of the Day: Subway features the music and lyrics (with a bow to Petula Clark) of Paul Statham and Peter Murphy, who greatly influenced so-called "Goth Rock." Murphy moved from Bauhaus to a complex solo career; he has recorded this song several times. My favorite version is a live rendition, captured on the album "Alive Just for Love" (audio clip at that link), which includes a soaring electric violin solo by Hugh Marsh.
