Machine Listening in the Recording Studio

"Machine Listening in the Studio" seeks to prove the feasibility of using machine listening techniques in studio environments. Machine listening strategies have existed and been employed for over two decades in speech processing, mobile telecommunications, and audio coding. The first stage of this proof-of-concept calls for a collection of recordings that will be analyzed for feature extraction and comparison.

By using machine listening strategies, we hope to improve the intuitiveness of the human-computer relationship in a modern music production environment. By allowing computers to make intelligent decisions on repetitious tasks, our aim is to reinforce human efficiency, efficacy, and control in the music-making process. Please consider donating your recorded work to our database and help realize these goals.

This project is being funded by a Steinhardt Technology Award.
