Previous
knowledge: Students will already have an understanding of endangered species,
significance of environments to living creatures.
Pre-visit:
For
this lesson we will discuss the diet and habitats of the endangered species
found at Prospect Park Zoo.
Students
will get into groups and select a set of endangered species to research.
Students
will find the diet and habitat of each species when found in the wild. For
research purposes, students may use the Internet or library resources.
In order to keep track of the information,
students will enter the information in a spreadsheet database. The spreadsheet
will contain the following information:

these questions to the class:
Students
will brainstorm in their groups and come up with possible answers, which they
will enter in their spreadsheet databases.
Visit
to the Prospect Park Wildlife Conservation Center:
While
at the zoo students will be asked to find the answers to the questions we
posed in class. They will need a sheet of paper, pencil, and something
to write on.
Follow-up: When we return to class students will be asked to get back into their groups and using the answers they got at the zoo they will be asked to finish filing in their spreadsheet databases and compare the pre-visit vs. post-visit results. Students will draw a conclusion from their information, type it up and present it to the class, along with a print our of the statistical information they have gathered.
