The Biosphere

 

Grade level: 10th grade

Objectives:

a) Describe the biosphere

b) Work to design a mural of the earth’s biosphere.

Prerequisites:

Activity.

1) Students will work together to brainstorm and design a biosphere consisting and a variety of biomes.

2) Divide the class into group responsible for the production of a specific biome.

3) Each group must make a list of the characteristics associated with each biome:

a) Population

b) community

c) Ecosystems

d) type of organisms

4) Each group must demonstrate how the characteristics of a particular biome work together to form that biome, and how that biomes contributes the earth’s biosphere.

 

Visit:

During the visit have students travel in their biome groups. They must develop a outline of how the will develop their own biome. The outline should include:

a) A sketch of their biome.

b) A list consisting of what will be included in the biome design.

c) A description of what contributes to the characteristics of that biome.

Post:

Collaborate with group members in the organization of the information obtained from the trip. Begin the production of your group biome.

Homework:

A) Work on your mural.

B) Write a paragraph consisting of some helpful hint for the other biome designs. Use some of information from the trip. What was observed on the trip that you think should be included in the other biomes.
