Independent Site Visits 10th Grade:
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
Grade Level: 10th grade general science
Learning Objective: Students will be able to compare and contrast plants from different climate zones.
Materials: Students should have a pen, paper, a handout sheet, and their science textbook.
Do Now: what type of climate would you expect to have in a desert, a tropical, and a temperate area?
Motivation: Could a plant that was removed from its climate zone be able to adapt to a new climate?
Presentation: Place students into groups of four. Each group will actively search for and examine plants from different climate zones at the Steinhardt Conservatory (A. Desert pavilion/B. Tropical pavilion/ C. Temperate pavilion)

Guided Practice:
The groups will reconvene at school to share the information they gathered on once particular plant or tree. The other groups will have an opportunity to ask questions about their data.
Homework:
Do a report on transpiration. How is this process important to the developing features of the plants in the three climate zones?
