Zoo
Pre-Visit:
Previous Learning: Students should have some knowledge about ecosystems, wild life, rain forest,
jungle, primary consumers,
secondary consumers, energy
pyramids.
Aim: What are the different interactions within the
rain forest?
Vocabulary: Food chain, climax, succession, ecology,
erosion, canopy, emergence, under story
Motivation: Students will be given science weekly vol.16
No.7. "Rainforest" with
hands-on activity. Flyer, permission slips and agenda will be given to all students.
Materials: Science weekly, camera, notepad, textbook,
internet.
Development: Students will be divided into three groups. Two
groups will be responsible for information on the rain forest while the third
group will concentrate on the Bronx Zoo as a wild life conservation center.
Group 1- How can the
rain forest be utilized for its valuable
resources? - In what parts
of the world are rain forest located?
Group 2 - What are some
of the problems facing the rain forest?
- Why is the rain forest referred to as earth's lungs? Group 3 - When
was the Bronx Zoo founded and by whom?
- What are the different activities offered by the zoo?
Post -Visit: Each group will give a presentation of their
findings in class. Photos, and graph data will accompany Presentation.
Homework: Each group will write an essay "My
favorite exhibit or aspect of the Bronx Zoo.
