A TRIP TO SANDS POINT DINOSAUR MUSEUM

Fossils
The Mesozoic era
The Jurassic, Triassic, and Cretaceous periods.

 

PRE VISIT
PURPOSE:
How can we determine what affect dinosaurs had on earth?

 

OBJECTIVE
Identify and determine different fossils.
Explain the Mesozoic era.
Explain the Triassic Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods.

 

MATERIALS
Pen paper Exhibition guide with a set of questions from the museum, News articles, and books concerning dinosaurs, recent newspaper articles, a camera and a poster board.

 

STUDENTS LEARNING PREQUISITES
Read books and Newspaper articles.
Answer the following Questions.
How old do you think dinosaurs are? How can we determine the age of dinosaurs? Do you think dinosaurs are extinct?

 

VISIT
Assign students into groups of four when you arrive at Sands Point.  Staff will do introduction to exhibits.
Guided tour through all exhibits.  THE AGE OF THE DINOSAUR, DRIFTING CONTINENTS, EXTINCTION, and TODAY'S DINOSAUR.   Have students take pictures of different exhibits during the tour and also of them doing the hands on activities.   Each student will be given an activity sheet. The activity sheet gives hands on activities and questions to answer.  After the tour Question and answer session.

 

POST VISIT
Have students answer the following questions again.  How old do you think dinosaurs are? How can we determine the age of dinosaurs? Do you think dinosaurs are extinct? Compare the pre-visit answers and the post-visit answers
Have students create a poster-board titled OUR TRIP TO SANDS POINT DINOSAUR MUSEUM.
Don't forget to use the pictures taken at the museum.

 

HOMEWORK:

Explain if dinosaurs really extinct? Or are birds really just feathered flying dinosaurs?
