Pre visit
PURPOSE: How can we identify arthropods?
OBJECTIVE
Students will come familiar with crabs, shrimps, lobsters, Barnacles, and Spiders.Students will distinguish between which anthropoids are on land and on water.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
Invertebrates informational packet given out by the Aquarium. Notepad and pen.
PREREQUISITES:
Have students use the Internet to research Arthropods. Also bring in articles that contains materials on anthropoids.
What is an anthropoid?
Have students answer the following questions.
How many different anthropoids can you name?
Are anthropoid land or sea animals?
What are the sizes of anthropoids?
VISIT
Introduction by staff.
A tour by the staff
Once you get to the arthropod section answer the following.
List five characteristics of arthropods.
Name five arthropods that in this section?
List arthropods that live on land and list arthropods that live in the ocean.
Identify the arthropods that are exoskeleton. List the advantages.
Explain the uses if the arthropods legs and choose one and describe its eyes.
Choose your favorite arthropod and explain how does it protect itself.
POST VISIT
Have students draw a picture of their favorite arthropod label its parts. Imagine you were this arthropod? Write a report on why did you choose this arthropod.
