Geology

 

Grade Level: 8th

PreVisit:

Previous Learning: Student should have some knowledge about rocks and minerals. (Geology)

 

Aim:                           How are rocks and minerals formed?

 

Vocabulary:             Erosion, sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic, faults, and plates.

 

Motivation:             Distribution of flyers, permission slips, agenda and rules for the trip.   All information will be discussed before field trip.

 

Lesson:
Each group will be given various questions about a specific topic relating to the Hall of Planet Earth exhibit.

Group 1 What are the three parts of the earth?Where in the earth are rocks and minerals found?
Group 2 What causes earthquakes?  Explain in your own words.

When and where was the most devastating earthquake on record?
What is the significant of sedimentary rocks?
What is the oldest sample of a rock in earth and where was it found?
Where in the museum would you find the largest sample of rock ever mined?  Where was its origin?

Evaluation of field trip

 

PostVisit:

Each group will give a presentation of their findings.  The use of visual aids and props will be encouraged.

 

Homework:

Each group will visit other exhibits within the museum and give a 10 minutes presentation on which exhibit was their favorite and why?
