Title of Project: "A World Community of Old Trees" - An Ecology Art Project on the World Wide Web since 1996

Purpose of the Research: To investigate the capabilities of the Internet as a medium for communication and exchange on a ecology education topic, for grades K-12

Procedure:

Participating Students:

• Locate the oldest, largest, or most extraordinary tree in their communities
  
• Create an original art work in the medium of their choice
  

and the Participating Classroom Teacher:

• Sends the student art work as an electronic file to the researcher's e-mail address
  

and the Researcher:

• Observes and documents the activity and places selected student work on the Web project

Benefit to Students: To share artwork and discuss tree ecology issues on the World Wide Web

Confidentiality: Students will be identified in this research by first name and school only

Participation: Participation in this research is voluntary and refusal to participate will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which the student is otherwise entitled.
