What is the Genetics Analysis Facility (GAF)?
This facility is designed for the analysis of DNA sequences
and DNA fragment sizes. The main component of the GAF is an
ABI 377 Genetic Analyzer (sequencing machine), but other equipment
includes a PE 9700 PCR machine, microfuges, vacuum concentrator
and computers (Macintosh G3s, G4s, and PCs) loaded with sequence
analysis, genetics analysis and phylogenetic analysis software.
The facility is located in the Department of Anthropology, New York
University.
Who uses the GAF?
Two labs from the departments of Biology and Anthropology
at NYU are the major users of the facility. For details on facility
use, see the pages on Policies, Price
Schedule, Contacts, and the Message
Board.
Who's in charge?
The GAF is supervised by Drs. David Fitch (Biology) and Todd Disotell (Anthropology).
How is the GAF supported?
The GAF was set up with funds from the National Science Foundation and New York University (NSF MRI grant 9870970). Maintenance costs are covered by user fees. Supply costs are covered individually by users. For details about fees, see the Price Schedule. |
