NOTE: The programs in this directory have been placed here with permission from Dr. Joseph Felsenstein. All of these files are copyrighted, and they must not be resold or used for any commercial purpose. They may of course be downloaded onto your personal computer to be used for study. The original README file for the directory containing these programs is copied below. Macintosh Users: Get PopG_2.0.bin (for Macs without math coprocessor) or PopG_2.0_68881.bin (for Macs with math coprocessor) using MacBinary transfer format (or automatic). These binary files must be expanded with Stuffit Expander (usually included with Netscape). The documentation file is PopGen_2.0_Instructions, which will expand into an MS Word file. PC Users: Get simul8.exe (or simul386.exe and dos4gw.exe). The documentation file is simul8.doc. These programs must be run in DOS (or in a DOS window under Windows). The dos4gw.exe program should be installed in the root directory. Other platforms: The other files are for use on the platforms indicated. simul8.c is the C source code (a text file). Have fun! D. The three Macintosh files are in MacBinary format as well. The simul8.doc and Makefile are text files and best transferred as text files. If you use simul386.exe, you should also get dos4gw.exe and put it in the root directory (C:\) of your system to enable protected memory to be used. Please note that all of these files are copyrighted. Permission is granted to copy and use them provided no resale or other commercial use is made of them, and provided the copyright notices are not removed. The Macintosh versions are modifications of our code by Mark Wells and are posted here with his permission. DOS4GW.EXE is provided with the Waterloo C 9.0 compiler and is legally allowed to be distributed along with a program compiled under that compiler, in this case simul386.exe.
