| Strain Isolation | E. Olafsson: July, 1981 Surtsey Island, Iceland. From the nest of hybrid gulls (Larus argentatus + L. hyperboreus) constructed primarily of local mosses (Rhacomitrium sp.) in a small cavity of lava. |
| Culture Notes | Grows at 18-22C on agar. Gonochoristic. Strain started from a single gravid female by Bjorn Sohlenius. Of the original extracted nematode suspension, part was transferred to agar plates and cultured on Nigon's agar. The P. detritophagus population survived in coculture with a P. superbus population for five years. |
