Irina Bergenfeld
Undergraduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, NYU, expected 2008

Email: icb210@nyu.edu
Irina once compared organic synthesis to Magic: The Gathering (the collectible card game) during an interview. Now she makes peptides to study the nature of protein-protein interactions....for the win. Irina comes equipped with a backpack that can't be uninstalled.

Danielle Guarracino
Postdoctoral Fellow

B.S. Chemistry, Cornell University
Ph.D. Chemistry, Yale University

Email: danielle.guarracino@nyu.edu

Danielle is completing a NY cycle that began on Long Island, NY, continued with her undergraduate education at Cornell in Ithaca, NY and now resumes in NY, NY for her postdoctoral endeavors after a stint in New Haven, CT.  She knows just enough synthesis, biophysics and biochemistry to not be an expert in any of them, but it seemed to satisfy Yale’s graduate school enough to let her pass her doctoral defense.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, creative writing, and enjoying all things British.

Laura Henchey
Graduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, University of South Florida

Email: lkh230@nyu.edu
Laura was born in Japan to half-Canadian parents and grew up in Tampa, FL. Unlike most Floridians, Laura truly loves the New York winters and the sub-zero temperatures. Laura is currently saving the world by disrupting the p53/MDM2 complex with peptidomimetics.

Andrea Jochim
Graduate Student

B.S. Chemistry and Biochemistry, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Email: ajochim@nyu.edu
As the resident computational chemical biologist, Andrea is tackling the grandest challenges in chemical biology....in theory. Andrea loves soup... and the outdoors... snow peas... talking and not talking. She hates words like "wound", "snack", and "hardy". Andrea's ultimate goal in life is to earn respect and honor for blondes everywhere.

Monica Menzenski
Graduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, Fordham University

Email: mzm207@nyu.edu
Monica is a native (suburban) New Yorker and has no desire to visit any other state. Her immediate goal in life is to run the NYC Marathon. When not training, Monica scares away sweet and innocent custodians from the lab lounge. When not training or scaring away gentle folk, she develops small molecule ligands for nucleic acids.

Stephen Miller
Graduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, Syracuse University

Email: sem399@nyu.edu
Stephen has decided to conquer the Big Apple with his skills in chemistry, especially in the field of mixology. He also plans to mesmerize people with his extensive knowledge of the processes in which various ethanol based products are made.

Anupam Patgiri
Graduate Student

B.Sc. Guwahati University, India
M.Sc. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, India

Email: anupam@nyu.edu
Anupam was born and brought up in Assam, a beautiful state in Northeast India. His scientific endeavor dragged him from Northeast India to Northeast US where he is now pursuing research for the fulfillment his Ph.D. thesis. He is an avid movie and music buff. His research involves recognition of nucleic acids by small molecules.

Petra Tosovska
Graduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, NYU

Email: pt373@nyu.edu

Petra was born in the Czech Republic and transplanted to NYU as an undergrad. Either owing to her heritage or to the high graduate student salaries at NYU, she has started cultivating a taste in fine champagne. Petra is developing non-peptidic foldamers that adopt helical conformations.

Rebecca Wissner
Undergraduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, NYU, expected 2009

Email: beckyw@nyu.edu

Rebecca is from Ardsley, a suburb of New York City. In the lab, she is learning to synthesize peptides in order to study protein-protein interactions. When she has any free time, she enjoys reading, running, and watching old episodes of Dexter.

Mike Witten
Undergraduate Student

B.S. Chemistry, NYU, expected 2009

Email: mikesock@nyu.edu

Mike hails from suburban Boston, where, lacking anything better to do during the Red Sox off-season, he developed an interest in chemistry. When he isn’t synthesizing peptides, he enjoys watching movies, reading a good book and sleeping.

Illustrious Group Alumni
