Hotels and B&Bs in Exeter

(Do shop around through online booking services like www.expedia.com, as you may get cheaper deals than booking direct with the hotels!)

High end:

The Royal Clarence, Cathedral Yard EX1 1HD Exeter. Tel: +44 (0)1392 319 955; Fax: +44 (0)1392 439 423

Located in the Cathedral yard (opposite Cathedral and near some of Exeter’s most ancient areas) is luxurious – probably Exeter’s best hotel – but also on the pricey side (£100 + a night), though there are some good deals: shop around! It is a good 20 min walk from here onto campus, or there is a regular bus service (D) that loops around the campus and into town. It has the well known British chef Michael Caines restaurant if you are feeling extravagant and hungry one evening.

The (Mercure) Southgate Hotel, Southernhay East EX1 1QF Exeter. Tel : +44 (0)1392/412812; Fax : +44 (0)1392/413549

The Southgate is also well placed for the Cathedral and central Exeter, again a 20 min walk onto campus, or bus ride. It comes highly recommended, and has lovely facilities including pool and gym. It is also pricey (£100-130+ a night), but they occasionally have good offers available.

Mid end:

Jury’s Inn, Western Way, Exeter, Tel: +44 (0)870 4100 800

This large new hotel will be opening in June 2009, so you would be one of the first to try it (this is either a recommendation or not)! Part of a UK chain, Jury’s Inn is situated in Central Exeter, about a 15-20 minute walk up to campus. It has extensive facilities including bar and restaurant. It is very reasonably priced at around £69+ per night.

The Queen’s Court well placed for town and the Uni in a nice quiet part of town off the main road. Lovely restaurant too (The Olive Tree). £80+ per night.

The White Hart is a fifteenth century pub/inn with accommodation (from £60 a night). Très British! Comfortable and lively. Also in the centre of town, more or less opposite several nice restaurants, and a stone’s throw from the Cathedral Yard:
