Parent's Guide | Student Life | Student Services | OISS

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) coordinates services for the University’s international students, scholars, and faculty. It assists students from other countries with all matters of special concern to them and serves as a referral source to other University offices and academic departments. The OISS staff provides assistance and support to students with respect to government procedures, personal concerns, and a variety of other nonacademic matters.

OISS sponsors a wide variety of programs and activities for NYU’s international community, including a comprehensive orientation at the beginning of each semester, an annual festival of U.S. culture designed to facilitate new students’ adjustment to the United States and New York City, an international friendship program, informational and cross-cultural seminars, and noncredit English classes for the spouses of international students and scholars.

OISS serves as the University’s liason to all United States government agencies with responsibilities for visitors from abroad. All international students are required by law to register with the OISS upon arrival and to notify OISS staff of changes in their academic program, address, or enrollment status. All questions regarding a student’s status as an international student or exchange
should be directed to the Office of International Students and Scholars at 212-998-4720.
