Chris Cosentino enters his 3rd season as Head Coach of the New York University ice hockey team. In a short period of time he has been able to transform the overall culture of the NYU Hockey program which has made incredible strides both on and off the ice. .

In 2010/2011, Coach Cosentino immediately implemented his philosophy to see his student/athletes excel on the ice, in the classroom and in the community. During his first season at the helm, the NYU Hockey team led the SECHL with twelve All-Academic Honorees and three student/athletes were selected to participate in the ACHA All-Star Challenge (Richie Pallai, Tim Gumaer and Greg Babbitt).

In 2011, the NYU Hockey team was awarded the prestigious NYU President's Service Award for outstanding community service efforts. The NYU Hockey Charity of the Game Program raises funds and awareness for a different not for profit charity at each NYU Hockey home game. Since the program began, the NYU Hockey team has assisted over 30 charities in the NYC area. The NYU hockey players and coaching staff also take time to cook dinner for families at The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island and participate in the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers 5K Run where they raise over $1,500 annually.

In 2011/2012, the NYU Hockey team welcomed one of the strongest recruiting classes in program history and finished with a 17-10-2 record. The team was 3rd in the Northeast region with the most goals scored and was ranked #7 in the region.

The team was even more successful in the classroom as they once again led the SECHL in All-Academic Honorees with an impressive sixteen recipients.

Prior to NYU, Coach Cosentino spent six seasons coaching with the prestigious New York Apple Core Junior Program where he guided over 100 players on to top collegiate hockey, including defenseman Anthony Bitetto who was drafted in the 5th Round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. Coach Cosentino served his final two seasons at Apple Core as the Head Coach of Apple Core's Junior ÔAÕ team which competes in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL). In 2010 he was named to the EJHL All-Star team coaching staff and guided nineteen players on to top collegiate hockey. In his time with Apple Core, he played a large role in formulating the organizationÕs ultra-successful model for player development and enhanced the program's marketing efforts during his well-respected tenure.

Prior to coaching Junior ÔAÕ, he served three seasons as Head Coach of the Apple Core Junior ÔBÕ team of the Empire Junior Hockey League where in 2008 he was selected to the Empire League All-Star team coaching staff. In 2007 and 2006, he served as Head Coach of the Empire League All-Star Selects which competed in Chicago and Minnesota.

Since 2007, Chris has served as coach and evaluator at the USA Hockey New York District Festival Camp. In 2004, he served as assistant coach for Team New York City at the Empire State Games where he helped lead the team to its first shut-out win in team history.

His playing career was hindered by several injuries, including two major knee operations. He played his collegiate hockey at both the Division 1 (Iona College) and Division 3 (SUNY-Geneseo) levels. He suited up for Apple CoreÕs Junior ÔAÕ team for four seasons between 1998-2001 and was a member of the St. MaryÕs High School New York State Championship team in 2000. He was a two-time member of Team New York at the USA Hockey Festivals and won the Silver Medal at the Select 16 Festival. Chris was selected in all three years of his eligibility to represent Team New York City at the Empire State Games; in his first year he was a key contributor in the first win in team history and was the teamÕs leading scorer in his final year.

Aside from his coaching duties, Chris works full-time at New York University and will be pursuing his MasterÕs degree. While coaching at Apple Core, he completed his coursework at Hofstra University where he earned his BA in Public Relations with a minor in Speech Communication and Rhetorical Studies. Chris currently resides in Astoria with his wife, Maria, and their dog, Mattingly.
