Issue Brief
The Student Senators Council recommends that additional funding be provided to the Wasserman Center Funded Internship Program.

The Proposal

The Funded Internship Program through the Wasserman Center provides compensation for students pursuing internships in the not-for-profit sector. The SSC applauds this program for allowing students to pursue professional development without forsaking financial livelihood and recommends that the university consider a substantial increase in funding for this program.

NYU Administration Response

The Wasserman Center and Student Affairs support this recommendation.   Within the past two years, Wasserman and Student Affairs have reallocated about $30,000 each year to fund unfunded internships.  This is a critical initiative that supports our "in and of the city" mantra.  Given the importance of this initiative to our students, the University will reallocate an additional $70,000 in one-time money to provide a total of $100,000 for this initiative in 2010-11.

The University will evaluate the success of this program next year to determine the level of continued funding of this initiative, if any, beyond the established permanent funding level of $30,000.
