Carter G. Woodson Institute--Predoctoral Residential Fellowships The Carter G. Woodson Institute for Afro-American and African Studies at the University of Virginia is offering residential research fellowships in Afro-American and African Studies. The fellowships are for the support of projects in those disciplines of the humanities and social sciences which concern themselves with Afro-American and African Studies. For the purpose of this competition, Afro-American and African Studies is considered to cover Africa, Africans, and peoples of African descent in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean, past and present. Pre-doctoral Residential Fellowships: Fellows will become visiting graduate students attached to their respective disciplinary departments. Eligibility: Open to qualified candidates without restriction as to citizenship or current residence. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation prior to August 1, 2000. Period: For 2 years, beginning in August 2000.
