Western Washington University - 1998-1999 Diversity Teaching Fellowships Western Washington University is actively seeking to increase its faculty diversity by offering two fellowships: 1. American Cultural Studies and Fairhaven College are seeking a fellowship candidate who will hold a joint appointment in each of these academic areas. The candidates should have a strong research and/or teaching backgrounds in the areas of African American and/or Native American studies and culture. Given the nature of both Fairhaven College and ACS, candidates could be selected from a wide variety of disciplinary bases, but must have a strong interest in teaching within an interdisciplinary context. 2. Women Studies is seeking to award a fellowship in conjunction with one of the following departments: History, English, Anthropology. Areas of expertise include: Introduction to Women Studies and the teaching of existing courses and development of new courses in third world and ethnic minority feminism inclusive of gay/lesbian issues, both in Women Studies and in the relevant academic department. Eligibility: Candidates should have completed all of the requirements for the Ph.D. degree except the dissertation. Expected completion of the dissertation must be within 1 to 2 years. Period: Granted for one year, Fellowships may be renewed for a second year with satisfactory performance. The Fellowships are designed to combine undergraduate teaching with time for writing and research. Course load is 3 to 4 courses per academic year, primarily at the undergraduate level. Stipend: Fellowships offer a stipend of $28,000 in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. Some support for relocation and dissertation relates travel will be available.
