University of California, Irvine - Chicano/Latino Literary Contest The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Irvine invites submissions for the annual Chicano/Latino Literary Contest. The yearly call for entries is genre specific, for the year 2001 it will be poetry, in 2002 it will be drama and in 2003 it will be the novel. Entries will be accepted only in the genre announced. Eligibility: The Department is now accepting entries in the genre of short story. The manuscript must be 175 typed pages minimum, double-spaced, bound, and submitted in Spanish or English. Only one entry per author. Author must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Prizes: First $1,000, publication of the collection if not under previous contract, and transportation to Irvine to receive the award; second, $500, and third, $250.(No travel allowances for the second and third prizes). Deadline: June 2.
