The Metropolitan Museum of Art--Fellowship in Asian Paintings Conservation Starr Fellowship in Asian Paintings Conservation The C.V. Starr Foundation has made it possible for the Metropolitan Museum of Art to award a fellowship for training in the conservation and mounting of Asian paintings. The department is concerned with the complete mounting, remounting, and the conservation of hanging scrolls, handscrolls, folding screens, prints, albums, books, etc. in the collection of this Museum. The intensive apprenticeship includes learning properties of various materials such as silk and paper, the use of specialized tools, carpentry and the development of technical, practical, and manual skills. Since work in this field requires the use of specialized tools and materials, no prior experience is anticipated or required. However, the intensive and comprehensive program is intended for a person who might pursue this field as a lifetime career. Period: The duration of the grant is determined by annual review.
