Social Science Research Council--Sexuality Research Fellowships Fellowship programs at the Social Science Research Council promote innovative thinking and creative approaches in diverse fields of study. The Sexuality Research Fellowship Program's objective is to help ensure the influx of new researchers to this field, sustain the work of senior researchers and promote research to inform new approaches to current and social health issues. The SRFP seeks to cultivate new generations of scholars who address the complexity and contextual nature of human sexuality and explore links across disciplines, methods, and issues. Applications are invited from a wide range of disciplines including but not limited to: anthropology, demography, economics, education, ethics, history, cultural and women's studies, political science, psychology and sociology. Applications from other fields, such as the biomedical/physical sciences, nursing, law, and clinical fields, are welcome as long as they are grounded in social theory and methodology. Applicants who do not demonstrate this link to the social sciences are not eligible. Dissertation Fellowships: The program will provide support for 12 continuous months in the amount of $28,000 to cover direct research costs, matriculation fees, and living expenses. Approximately 10 dissertation fellowships will be awarded in 1999. Eligibility: Students should have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation and be matriculating in a full-time graduate program leading to the Ph.D. in a social, health, or behavioral science department of a nationally accredited United States College or University. Postdoctoral Fellowships: The program will provide support for up to 24 continuous months. Approximately four postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in 1999 in the amount of $38,000 per year to cover research costs and living expenses. Any support provided for more than 12 months will be dependent on the submission and satisfactory review of a progress report to the fellowship program. Eligibility: Applicant must hold the Ph.D. or its equivalent in a social or behavioral science from a state or nationally accredited university in the United States, or an equivalent Ph.D. degree from an accredited foreign university. The applicant may be a recent recipient of the doctorate or well advanced in the postdoctoral research process. Fellows may already have conducted research in the field of human sexuality or may be newly committing themselves to using their more general training to address sexuality issues. Postdoctoral candidates who have conducted research on sexuality for more than eight years will not be considered. Application deadline: December 15, 1999.
