Predissertation Fellowships for Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka for preliminary Ph.D. dissertation field activities, such as investigating potential research sites and materials, development of language skills, and establishing local research contacts. Three types of predissertation fellowships are available and must be applied for independently. Dissertation Fellowships for Bangladesh are for nine to 15 months of research in that country; scholars pursuing comparative pan-Bengal research may also work in India but would be expected to spend at least two-thirds of research time in Bangladesh. Dissertation Fellowships for Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, support field research and additional language training for doctoral dissertations related to those countries.
