Smithsonian Institution--Smithsonian Center for Material & Education SCMRE offers research internships and fellowships at several academic levels. These may involve any are of SCMRE research programming activity in biogeochemistry; characterizing and preserving natural history collections, photographic materials, and modern materials; preservation science; analysis and characterization of archaeological materials; and conservation treatment development. Summer Internships: Ten-week summer internships applicable to any area of SCMRE's activities (artifact analysis, conservation treatment, and preservation science) are offered. Graduate Internships: A varied number of year-long internships are are available in any area of research programming. A stipend of $14,000, plus $2,000 for travel, plus health insurance is provided. Pre-doctoral Fellowships: Year-long appointments for pre-doctoral fellowships are announced on a laboratory-wide basis, rather than in predefined specialties such as materials analysis or conservation science. Fellows receive a stipend of $20,000, plus $2,000 for travel, plus health insurance. Post-doctoral Fellowships: These year-long fellowships are also announced on laboratory-wide basis, rather than in predefined specialties. Support of $25,000 is provided, plus $2,000 for travel, plus health insurance.
